I think the hi was to make sure we kept our minds open or to look in a particular direction. I think it is much more likely that the circlemakers simply made a mistake and any other 'explanation' is simply trying to rationalise that mistake in such a way as to maintain a belief that something other than humans made the circle.

All of these references to sound are, as far as I can see, being made by people searching for a message in and trying to interpret the crop circles. I don't see any clear evidence that such references are being made by the circlemakers.

Do they? There aren't usually any dogs around in the fields when formations occur. Where did this piece of 'folk lore' come from, cannonball?

I agree with the dogs thing, they have good hearing and pick up on noise.

I was thinking of the farm's dogs who would in many cases be a considerable distance away from the fields, but of course there are visitors' dogs during the crop circle season who are part of the nightwatch and camping scene and so on, and therefore much closer to the actual location of the circles. However, have you ever heard about one of those dogs barking whilst a circle was "occurring"? Or even just heard one of them yourself?
